SNAI

Automatic Vision inspection and Programming for Part Identification

Automation Control Services,

Client: Aisin North Carolina | Location: Durham, NC

The client wanted to implement vision systems at multiple assembly lines that identified several types of parts so that the next processes are decided by the specific identified part type. As the types of parts travel through the assembly lines, each of them require a unique identification/QR code and complex programming along with making communication with the vision systems with different communication protocols such as Ethernet-IP/CC-Link/Socket Communication/IO wiring.

SNAI initiated research at each assembly line, studied machine electrical drawings, and determined the necessary vision system equipment and locations which they should be installed. SNAI decided on the communication protocol for each vision system, so it can be communicated to all other equipment of that same machine.  The part type was judged by the vision system by reading the RFID code on each part, given a specific value, and logged to the RFID tag.

The PLC programming was completed with a feature so that the vision system judgements can be enabled/disabled through GOT (HMI) screen in case of any malfunction or damage to the equipment. As a result, production does not stop on those assembly lines.

SNAI established communication between RFID readers and vision system, giving the correct signals in the PLC programming for initiating the next process depending upon the part type. In case any part is detected as defective, then a corrective action is displayed and navigated through the customer specified method.
